About Lankester Engineering

The original Lankester Engineering was Alice Lankester’s grandfather’s company — an early leader in car dealerships in Southeast England.

During World War 1 Lankester Engineering Co Ltd, Kingston was employing 20 females for war work involving mine sinkers, 18 pounder shells, base plates, keys for aero engines and general fittings.

I remember taking the bus to school, behind signs like this, and thinking that was normal. When obviously it wasn’t.

My Dad loved cars. Here he is with on the far left, having sold a beautiful racing green TR3 to a local architect.
